The United States of America has the highest annual deaths per 100,000 children from child abuse. The reason that the USA has the highest percentage is because the economy is going bad. The economy going bad is causing people to stress out and this can lead to abuse.

What Have You Learned So Far?

  

There are 6 major types of child abuse:

• Physical abuse - a non-accidental injury to the child (i.e. punching. beating, kicking, biting, shaking, throwing, stabbing, choking, hitting, burning or harming the child in anyway).
• Neglect - the failure of the parent, guardian, or caregiver to supply a child with the basic needs.
• Sexual Abuse - activities by the parent or caregiver such as rape, indecent exposure, exploitation through prostitution, and penetration.
• Emotional Abuse - pattern of behavior that impairs the child's psychological development, this includes criticism, rejection, threats, as well as withholding love and giving guidance.
• Abandonment -  now considered a form of neglect, it is when the child's parents have no known identity, or the whereabouts of the parents are unknown, the child is left alone in circumstances that could harm the child.  
• Substance Abuse - substance abuse can be a number of things,

1. Prenatal exposure to drugs or alcohol due to the mother's use during pregnancy.
2. manufacture of drugs in the presence of a child.
3. selling, distributing, or giving illegal drugs or alcohol to a child.

Why Did You Choose Your Topic?

     I chose child abuse because I thought it was an interesting topic and it is something different than everyone else's, for example bipolar disorder or STDs. Also because I had wanted teen depression or teen suicide but those were taken.  Another reason that I picked this topic is that child abuse is a big issue that some people are not aware of, and this could help them understand how important the issue is.
